When you think of winter coziness, Christmas markets, and unique activities, Groningen is the destination to discover. From December 14 to 16, we went on a press trip to fully immerse ourselves in the magical atmosphere of Wintergoud.
Chocolate bonbon workshop and Wintergoud
Our visit to Groningen started with a delightful lunch at Brasserie Prinsenhof, where the famous Groningen mustard soup was, of course, on the menu.
After lunch, a creative activity was on the agenda: a bonbon-making workshop at Smaakaron. Guided by chocolatier Jelte, we crafted our own chocolate masterpieces, from painting to filling. An absolute must-do for chocolate lovers!
In the evening, we were welcomed into the Christmas spirit of Wintergoud, where the official opening took place. We enjoyed a stunning ice-skating performance and explored the cozy Christmas market. The day ended with dinner at PJ’s, a vibrant restaurant where food-sharing takes center stage. And what’s an evening in Groningen without a cocktail at The Stockroom? This hidden gem is a must-visit for a unique way to wrap up your night.
Swedish Christmas market and breathtaking views
After a delicious breakfast, we started the day at Forum Groningen, a vibrant cultural center that houses a library, cinema, and study spaces. It often hosts exhibitions and events as well. An impressive venue with plenty of experiences to offer.
The next stop was the Swedish Christmas market in an old sugar factory on the outskirts of the city. With countless stalls, live music, and delicious treats, this market radiated pure Christmas spirit. A unique location you definitely shouldn’t miss.
As the cherry on top, we climbed the Martini Tower. It’s quite a climb, but once at the top, you’re rewarded with a breathtaking view of Groningen.
